The Dawn of a New Era: Designing Buffalo’s Metro Rail
An exhibition reflecting the optimism and progress marked by the construction and opening of Buffalo’s NFTA Metro Rail in 1984. Early concepts for system layout and station design were presented and contextualized for viewers, along with promotional items, archival video, and other period objects. Additional public programs included a tour of art and architecture of the underground portion of the current Metro Rail system and a series of talks titled “Metro Rail and You” held at the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library.
This exhibition was co-curated with Bryan Lee and exhibited at El Museo in 2022, with support from NYSCA and Humanities NY. We were assisted by many, including Gareth Lichty, Jeff Shervin, and NFTA staff.
